Daniel Bochsler is an Associate Professor in Political Science at Central European University (CEU) and a full Professor of Political Science at the University of Belgrade. He holds an affiliation as a Privatdozent/Associated Researcher at the Centre for Democracy Studies Aarau (ZDA) at the University of Zurich. He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Geneva.
His research focuses on political institutions, ethnic diversity, and democracy in Central and Eastern Europe, with a particular emphasis on electoral systems, political parties, federalism, and direct democracy. He has advised international bodies like the Venice Commission and Swiss cantonal parliaments on electoral reforms.
Bochsler’s work has been recognized with awards from the Swiss Political Science Association and the Institut d’Estudis de l’Autogovern. His career includes previous roles as Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, Assistant Professor at the University of Zurich, and post-doctoral research at CEU. He has conducted research stays at institutions including Pompeu Fabra University, the European University Institute, and the University of Belgrade.
His research explores topics such as electoral engineering, institutional design, and the interplay between ethnic diversity and democratic governance, with a focus on post-Yugoslav states and comparative democratization processes.
