About
Dr. Daniel Afosah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Texas (UNT), where he joined in 2024. He holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2017) from Virginia Commonwealth University, preceded by a Master’s in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Control (2010) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (2007) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana.
- BPharm, KNUST (2007)
- MSc, KNUST (2010)
- PhD, Virginia Commonwealth University (2017)
Dr. Afosah’s research focuses on chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, particularly the discovery and development of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and GAG-based chemical entities. His work addresses both therapeutic applications and structural characterization of GAGs, targeting diseases such as thrombocytopenia, thrombotic disorders, cancer, and inflammatory conditions.
His NIH-sponsored postdoctoral fellowships (K12, 2018; K99, 2022) at Virginia Commonwealth University highlight his expertise in drug discovery and enzyme kinetics. Dr. Afosah’s research integrates synthetic organic chemistry with target identification and activity relationship studies to advance GAG-based therapeutics.
