Silvio Danese is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Head of the Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy (since 2021). Previously, he served as Head of the IBD Center and Immunocenter at IRCCS Humanitas, Rozzano, and held academic roles at Humanitas University (2015–2021). He trained in Gastroenterology at the Catholic University School of Medicine, Rome, and completed a PhD (2004) and postdoctoral research at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA.
His research focuses on IBD pathogenesis mechanisms, colorectal cancer development, and immune-mediated diseases. He leads over 700 publications in top journals like NEJM and Lancet, and coordinates major grants, including a €15.5M IMI2 grant (2020) and an NIH grant ($1M, 2011).
