Dane W. Scott

Dane W. Scott serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry within East Tennessee State University's School of Science, Engineering, and Math. He teaches General Chemistry I, Quantitative Analysis, Instrumental Analysis, and Advanced Analytical Chemistry courses since joining ETSU in Fall 2015.

Dr. Scott's research centers on alternative energy conversion, particularly using hydrogen-containing metal oxides to transform biomass and cellulosic materials into hydrocarbons. Current Department of Defense funding (2023-2026) supports his work on cellulose and nitrocellulose conversion. His publication record spans electrochemical CO₂ reduction, photochemical processes, and environmental remediation techniques.

He actively contributes to ETSU's Brewing and Distilling Minor program, reflecting his applied interest in fermentation chemistry. Dr. Scott's teaching philosophy prioritizes clarity and completeness, emphasizing direct communication in complex chemical concepts.
