Dan Pitera, FAIA, is Dean and Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture & Community Development. As former Executive Director of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC), his work focuses on civic engagement and community-driven design. His leadership earned the DCDC national recognition including the AIA Whitney M. Young Jr. Award and inclusion in the Venice Biennale.
Research Interests: Pitera's activism-centered approach integrates design with social justice, addressing urban revitalization through participatory frameworks. His projects include co-leading Detroit Future City and developing methodologies for equitable community development.
