Daniel S. Nagin is the Teresa and H. John Heinz III University Professor of Public Policy and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also serves as Associate Dean of Faculty. He holds a PhD from Heinz College and is a Max Planck Law Fellow affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg and the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn.
His research examines:
- Rational choice and behavioral approaches to crime
- Evolution of criminal behaviors across life course
- Deterrent effects of criminal penalties
- Statistical methods for longitudinal data analysis
Professor Nagin chaired the National Research Council's Committee on Deterrence and the Death Penalty and previously served as Deputy Secretary in the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
