Dan Birchok is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan-Flint. His current work centers on Sufi communities in Aceh, Indonesia, analyzing how evolving notions of orthodoxy and authority reflect religion's role in the Indonesian state.
