About
Dalya M. Lateef is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Sciences and Mathematics faculty group at the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, Arizona State University (ASU). She holds a B.S. (2007) and Ph.D. (2011) in Integrative Biosciences from Tuskegee University, with a focus on neurophysiology, energy metabolism, and obesity. Her research explores physiological and molecular mechanisms controlling metabolic rate, temperature, and blood pressure using murine models. She completed postdoctoral training at NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), investigating bombesin receptor subtype-3 (BRS-3) and its role in metabolic and cardiovascular systems.
Professor Lateef is passionate about STEM education and biomedical training for youth, having served as a science educator and program director in a charter school. She teaches courses such as BIO 100 (The Living World), BIO 202 (Human Anatomy & Physiology II), BIO 340 (General Genetics), and ABS 422 (Head and Neck Anatomy). Her expertise spans bioethics and biosystems structure/function.
Her publications (2011–2016) focus on receptor signaling pathways (BRS-3, melanocortin), metabolic regulation, thermogenesis, and gastrointestinal physiology. Notable works include studies on BRS-3’s role in blood pressure regulation and the effects of cholecystokinin on meal patterns. She has presented findings at the NIH Research Festival (2012).
