About
Dae Han Sung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware (2023), an MS from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (2016), and a BS from the same institution (2015). His expertise spans the design, manufacturing, characterization, and optimization of hierarchical composite materials and their multifunctional applications.
Dr. Sung's research focuses on multiscale composite materials, nanocomposites, multifunctional applications, composite interface modification, polymer matrix composites, and manufacturing/design/characterization. His work bridges fundamental material science with industrial applications in energy, sensing, and advanced manufacturing.
Recent publications demonstrate strong trends in electrophoretic deposition techniques, additive manufacturing of composites, and multifunctional material systems. Key areas include roll-to-roll manufacturing processes, carbon nanotube-based sensors, structural batteries, and 3D printable composites with enhanced thermal and electrical properties.
Currently advises graduate student Anick Dey and has participated in research projects funded by NSF, DOE, and AFRL. Leads the Composite Materials and Multifunctional Structures Laboratory focusing on scalable nanomanufacturing techniques.
