Cédric Del Rio

Cédric Del Rio serves as Maître de conférences (Associate Professor) at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France, within the Origins and Evolution research unit since October 2021. His academic journey includes a PostDoc position at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in China (2019-2021) and PhD research at the same French institution (2015-2018) focused on Paleogene Icacinaceae of the Paris Basin.

Dr. Del Rio specializes in Paleogene fossil flora with particular expertise in fossil fruits, endocarps, and seeds. His research spans multiple plant families including Icacinaceae, Menispermaceae, Anacardiaceae, and Juglandaceae, with significant contributions to understanding biogeographic patterns across the Northern Hemisphere. Notably, he has conducted extensive paleobotanical investigations on the Tibetan Plateau, revealing Eocene subtropical ecosystems at high elevations.
