Cynthia Sturkie

Cynthia Sturkie serves as Part-Time Instructor in the Non-Traditional Deaf Education Program at Texas Tech University, with adjunct appointments in Amarillo College's Interpreter Training Program. Her background includes extensive K-12 experience as teacher and director of Regional Day School Programs for the Deaf.

Holding a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders from UT Dallas, M.Ed. from East Texas State University, and B.Ed. from Southwest Texas State University, Sturkie's expertise spans communication disorders, ASL instruction, and language development in deaf children. Her research examines language acquisition barriers and educational interventions for deaf students.

Professional service includes membership on Texas' Board of Evaluations of Interpreters and peer review of deaf education programs. Sturkie maintains active community interpreting practice while teaching graduate courses on deaf education methodologies and assessment.
