Cynthia R. Hancock

Cynthia R. Hancock is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Sociology and Director of the Gerontology Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Sociology from UNC Chapel Hill.

Her research focuses on community-based experiential learning, pedagogical approaches to gerontology education, and sociolinguistic aspects of aging. She teaches courses including Aging and the Lifecourse, Families and Aging, Sociology of Aging, and Gerontology Senior Seminar.

She has received significant recognition for teaching excellence and contributions to gerontology education, including:

• College-level teaching awards for both part-time and full-time lecturing
• National Distinguished Faculty Award from the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education
• Fellowship status in three professional gerontology organizations
