Cynthia Martin

Cynthia Martin is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies at James Madison University's School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication, where she has served since 2002. She holds an M.A. in English Literature from Virginia Tech (1997) and a B.A. in English/Professional Writing from James Madison University (1993). Her research focuses on diabetes stigma, digital rhetoric, document design, and editing. Notable publications include analyses of diabetes representation in public health and sports media, as well as innovative approaches to academic writing pedagogy.

Her work critiques harmful public health messaging around diabetes and explores counternarratives in sports media. She has also advocated for non-food rewards in parenting and reimagined research paper frameworks in higher education.
