Cynthia Gutierrez

Cynthia Gutierrez is an Assistant Professor of Theatre & Dance and Department Co-Chair at Gonzaga University. She is also the Artistic Director of Company Movimiento, a dance company focused on cultural identity and social justice. Her roles combine teaching, choreography, and advocacy for inclusion in the arts.

Education:

Research & Practice: Gutierrez specializes in contemporary post-modern dance and American concert jazz technique, emphasizing social consciousness and representation. Her choreography has been commissioned by institutions like Kent State University, University of Minnesota, and the Kennedy Center, and performed at venues such as the Walker Art Center and the Guthrie Lab. She prioritizes exploring themes of cultural identity and activism through movement.

Teaching & Leadership: She has taught at the University of Minnesota, Gustavus Adolphus College, Bates Dance Festival, and Xuchang University (China). As Department Co-Chair, she oversees Gonzaga’s Theatre & Dance programs while leading Company Movimiento’s mission to bridge art and social justice.
