Curtis Pavey

Dr. Curtis Pavey is an Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Missouri, specializing in keyboard works from the 16th to 21st centuries. Prior to his current role, he taught at the University of Cincinnati and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

• Master of Music (MM) and Bachelor of Music (BM) in Piano Performance and Early Music Harpsichord, Indiana University

His research focuses on Baroque piano pedagogy, historic improvisation, early French music, Maurice Ravel’s compositions, music by Cuban composers, and underrepresented voices in classical music. He has contributed to the Journal of Piano Research and served as Manager of Online Publications at the Frances Clark Center, overseeing educational content like the Piano Inspires Discovery Page.

Dr. Pavey has received recognition for his performances, including a 2021 Jurow International Harpsichord Competition semifinalist placement and a finalist spot in the Beardsley Cup Piano Prize Competition. His performance highlights include solo recitals at the Oklahoma Mozart Festival, the world premiere of Grace Choi’s Voyage, and collaborations in Stravinsky’s Les Noces and Schubert’s Die Winterreise.

He has coached with distinguished early music specialists like Elisabeth Wright and Malcolm Bilson, and his discography includes forthcoming video demonstrations for the Frances Clark Center on Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre’s Suite in A Minor and Ravel’s Prelude in A Minor.
