Csaba Prónai

Csaba Prónai is a Habilitated Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary. He concurrently serves as a lecturer in the Institute of Social Relations and leads the Roma/Gypsy Culture Research Anthropologists (ROKKA) Research Group, focusing on anthropological investigations of Roma communities across Europe.

His research centers on cultural anthropology with specialized expertise in Roma studies, examining interethnic relations in the Carpathian Basin, migration patterns of Roma populations, and cultural systems of purity/pollution within Hungarian Roma communities. Prónai investigates identity formation in marginalized contexts, particularly among local Roma groups in the Gömör region, and analyzes historical developments in anthropological Gypsy studies.
