Crystal Howell

Crystal Howell is an Education Professor at Randolph College, joining the faculty for the 2018-19 academic year. She teaches EDUC 101 for prospective teachers and courses in the M.A.T. program including instructional methods and reflective teaching seminars.

Her research centers on embodied teaching experiences when educators transition between online and face-to-face environments, analyzed through feminist perspectives on gender. Additional scholarly work spans multicultural education, service learning, out-of-school curriculum development (e.g., camps/afterschool programs), and qualitative methodologies.

Dr. Howell mentors undergraduate and M.A.T. students throughout their educator preparation program. Her pedagogy emphasizes writing-to-learn exercises, critical analysis of contemporary educational issues, and iterative revision processes to cultivate engaged citizenship and professional growth.
