Cristina Fossaluzza

Cristina Fossaluzza is an Associate Professor of German Literature at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, working within the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies. She maintains an active research agenda with numerous international collaborations and serves in various academic leadership roles at her institution.

Professor Fossaluzza's research focuses on the intersections between aesthetics and politics in German literature from the Enlightenment to contemporary periods. Her work particularly examines cultural criticism, antimodernism, philosophy of history, and representations of 'exceptional states' in literature. She has made significant contributions to understanding Weimar Republic culture, First World War literary representations, and the reception of Commedia dell'arte in German-speaking countries. Her scholarly approach combines literary analysis with historical and philosophical perspectives, revealing how literary works engage with broader political and cultural currents.

Her extensive publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly productivity across multiple research themes. Fossaluzza's work shows particular strength in examining European intellectual history through the lens of German literature, with special attention to concepts of 'Europe' from Romanticism to modernity. Her current projects include 'Texturen der Gemeinschaft' examining German concepts of community in European context (1918-1961), which involves collaboration with Sorbonne University, Heidelberg University, and other European institutions. Her leadership extends to academic service through roles on doctoral committees, departmental boards, and quality assurance initiatives at Ca' Foscari.
