Cristina Cuneo is an Associate Professor of Architectural History at the Interuniversity Department of Territorial Sciences, Planning and Policies (DIST) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. She serves as a Member of the Academic Senate, Member of the Student Team Commission, and Member of the GEDI (Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Observatory. Her academic career spans over three decades since her graduation in Architecture in 1990.
Dr. Cuneo holds a PhD in "History and Criticism of Architectural and Environmental Heritage." She teaches History of Modern Architecture in the undergraduate Architecture program and Environmental History of Architecture in the master's program in Architecture for Sustainability. In 2023, she served as a visiting researcher at the Department of Art History at Complutense University of Madrid.
Her research focuses on architectural history with particular emphasis on female patronage, capital cities, court culture, and urban heritage. Her work explores the representation of urban space, city design, and territorial cartography in the modern age, with special attention to the Capital Cities of the Ancien Régime Courts and female sovereignty. She investigates transformation processes of civic offices in southwestern Piedmont and the history of cities in the modern age. Her research integrates gender studies with architectural history, particularly examining female leadership in urban representations.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on digital approaches to architectural heritage, pandemic impacts on urban spaces, and innovative teaching methods in architectural history. These works reflect her interdisciplinary approach that bridges traditional architectural history with contemporary digital methodologies and sustainability concerns.

Dr. Cuneo serves on the Board of Directors of the Italian Association of Urban History and is a member of the Department Council. She coordinates the competitively funded CAMELOT project, which focuses on heritage-led sustainability in partnership with multiple cultural institutions including the Regional Directorate of Museums of Piedmont, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Turin, and international partners like the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA. Her research is aligned with ERC sectors SH5_6 and SH5_8, as well as Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
Her work spans multiple research laboratories and teams focused on urban history, architectural heritage, and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on digital documentation and representation of historical spaces.
