Cristina Awadalla

Cristina Awadalla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Latino/a and Latin American Studies at Occidental College. Appointed in 2024, she focuses on interdisciplinary sociology, with teaching expertise in Central American politics, Latin American feminisms, women’s labor, and research methods.

• Education: B.A., M.A., Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara
• Research Interests: Explore the intersections of gender conservatism, populism, and authoritarianism, with a focus on the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) of Nicaragua and its relationship to the women’s movement.
