About
Dr. Craig MacKinnon is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Lakehead University within the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. With a career spanning over two decades, he has been contributing to the field of inorganic chemistry since joining Lakehead in 2001.
- Education
- BSc (Honours) in Chemistry, Dalhousie University (1992)
- PhD in Inorganic Chemistry, Guelph-Waterloo Centre for Graduate Work in Chemistry (1997)
His research focuses on materials chemistry, particularly the synthesis and characterization of oligomers for semiconducting applications. Key projects include:
- Attaching functional groups (nitrile, aldehyde) to oligomers to study solid-state packing patterns
- Synthesis of challenging oligomers with single monomer types
- Coordination chemistry of end-capped oligomers with transition metals
As a member of the Canadian Society of Chemistry and the American Chemical Society, Dr. MacKinnon has also held administrative roles, including Assistant Dean of Science and Environmental Studies (2013-2014).
