About
Dr. Craig Lygate is Reader in Myocardial Biology at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular Health. Originally trained as a pharmacist, he holds a PhD in cardiovascular physiology and previously served as Associate Professor at the University of Oxford.
His research investigates cellular energy metabolism in cardiac health and disease, with particular focus on the creatine kinase system and homoarginine metabolism. He explores therapeutic approaches for acute ischemia and chronic heart failure through metabolic augmentation strategies.
Recent publications focus on innovative biomaterials for cardiovascular applications, including graphene-based nitric oxide delivery systems for vascular stents and genetic modulation of cardiac energetics in murine models.
