Dr. Craig A. Field is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at El Paso. His research develops and evaluates brief motivational interventions for health behavior change, with particular focus on reducing alcohol-related disparities among Latino communities. Dr. Field's work examines cultural risk/protective factors in drinking behaviors and applies self-determination theory to understand behavioral change mechanisms.
He directs the Latino Alcohol and Health Disparities Research Center and has led multiple NIH-funded clinical trials testing culturally-informed interventions. Dr. Field has published extensively on ethnic differences in alcohol intervention outcomes and treatment utilization patterns. His research has been funded by NIAAA, NIDA, PCORI, and SAMHSA.
