Courtney Booker

Courtney Booker is a Professor and Associate Head - Graduate at the University of British Columbia's Department of History within the Faculty of Arts. Holding a Ph.D. from UCLA, he specializes in Carolingian intellectual and cultural history with cross-cutting interests in

• Historiography
• Rhetoric and narrative
• Latin philology
• Codicology
• Political theology

His current project Kingdom of Conscience examines medieval notions of truth and conscience, while Lost Cause explores the transmission of Nithard's chronicle containing the first French text. He has completed an English translation of Lyon bishop Agobard's polemical writings. Awards include

Professor Booker has supervised numerous graduate students including Josh Timmermann (Ph.D. 2021) and Georg Heinzle (Ph.D. 2019). His publications bridge manuscript studies, political theology, and reception history across twelve books and over thirty peer-reviewed articles.
