Cory McCarthy

Cory McCarthy is a faculty member in the MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults program. He holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, a screenwriting certificate from UCLA, and a BA in Creative Writing from Ohio University.

An acclaimed author of four YA novels, McCarthy writes across genres including science fiction, feminist romcoms, and verse novels. His works explore LGBTQ+ identities through innovative narrative forms including word art poetry and graphic novel elements. Current projects include a space fantasy duology and a nonfiction picture book about Kahlil Gibran.

McCarthy co-founded the Rainbow Writers Workshop and incorporates themes of identity, queerness, and artistic expression in both his creative work and teaching.
