Dr. Cory J. May serves as an Assistant Professor of Theological and Historical Studies within the Graduate School of Theology and Ministry at Oral Roberts University. He joined ORU in Fall 2021 as an adjunct instructor and was promoted to his current tenure-track position beginning Fall 2022.
His academic credentials include:
- Associate Degree (2005) and Bachelor's Degree (2006) in Theology from Escondido Bible College
- Master of Divinity (2010) from Asbury Theological Seminary
- Master's Degree in Theology and Religious Studies (2012) and Doctorate (2018) from the University of Aberdeen
Dr. May's research centers on Colonial African American Christianity, specifically advancing theologically conservative African American Evangelical scholarship through scripturally-centered interpretations of African American Slave Christianity. His work critically examines historical accuracy while extending to related domains including Black Theology, Civil Rights Movement theology, African American slave narratives, and intersections of African American literature with political discourse. Primary emphasis remains on reconstructing authentic theological frameworks from colonial-era African American religious experiences.
