Prof. Dr. Cornelius Schubert is a Professor of Science and Technology Sociology at the Technical University of Dortmund’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Since October 2024, he also serves as Dean of the Faculty. His academic roles include visiting professorships at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Brazil) and the University of Twente (Netherlands). Schubert holds a habilitation (2016) and doctorate (2006) from TU Berlin, focusing on sociotechnical systems and medical technology practices.
His research explores interactions between science, technology, and society, with emphases on innovation emergence, repair/improvisation in technical contexts, and micro-sociological analyses of healthcare and laboratory practices. He leads interdisciplinary projects addressing digital health, medical data visualization, and socio-technical path creation.
Schubert has published extensively on medical sociology, technology ethics, and innovation studies. He co-edited key works like Berlin Keys to the Sociology of Technology and serves on editorial boards for journals such as NOvation. His professional memberships include leadership roles in the German Society for Science and Technology Studies (GWTF) and the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST).
