Corinna Franklin, MD, serves as Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. She is a board-certified pediatric orthopaedic surgeon specializing in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine with particular expertise in female athletes, neuromuscular disorders including cerebral palsy, and fractures. Dr. Franklin prioritizes listening to her patients and ensuring nonbinary and transgender athletes feel comfortable in her care.
Dr. Franklin's educational background includes an AB in Philosophy from Harvard University (2001), MD from Harvard Medical School (2006), Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Southern California (2011), and Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (2012). She also completed notable fellowships including the Howard Hughes Medical Student Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (2005) and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Summer Fellowship (2002).
Her research spans pediatric sports medicine with particular focus on sex differences in sports medicine, biomechanics of sports injury and recovery, and female athlete health. Recent publications examine patellofemoral instability, ACL reconstruction outcomes in pediatric patients, relative energy deficiency in sport, and the impact of breasts and bras on physical activity among women and girls. Her work demonstrates consistent exploration of gender-specific considerations in pediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Franklin has received numerous honors including Connecticut Top Doctor designation for 2025, 2024, and 2023, POSNA Leadership Fellow (2023), Philadelphia Top Doctor (2020-2022), and AAOS Leadership Fellow (2019).
She holds significant leadership roles including President of Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (since February 2024), Chair of PRiSM (since 2022), Secretary of RJOS (since 2021), and Chair of POSNA (since 2021). Dr. Franklin also serves as a reviewer for multiple journals including Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, The Bone and Joint Journal, and Journal of Public Health.
