Corey Brelsfoard

Corey Brelsfoard is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University. His research focuses on medical entomology, vector biology, and the ecological and evolutionary impacts of novel vector control strategies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky (2009), an M.S. and B.S. from Eastern Illinois University (2005/2003), and completed a postdoc at Yale University (2010).

Research interests include microbial interactions in insects, mosquito ecology, and the application of Wolbachia symbionts for disease control. Key projects explore male mosquito behavior, microplastic effects on vectors, and the role of symbionts in pathogen transmission. His lab contributes to integrated approaches for suppressing disease vectors like Aedes and Culicoides species.

Publications highlight advancements in understanding Wolbachia’s role in pathogen inhibition, microplastic toxicity in mosquitoes, and vector population dynamics. He advises multiple graduate students and collaborates on initiatives to develop sustainable vector control tools.
