Conor Murphy

Professor Conor Murphy is the Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin. He earned his medical degree from University College Dublin (1996), followed by a Master's in Physiology (1998) and a PhD in Ocular Immunology (2005). His clinical expertise includes corneal disorders, uveitis, and cataract surgery, with a focus on advanced techniques like DALK and DMEK. He leads the Ocular Immunology Research Group, exploring corneal transplantation immunology, microRNA in ocular inflammation, and sustainable surgical practices.

He has supervised 3 PhD and 3 MD students, and oversees medical education and examinations in ophthalmology.

Recent publications highlight advancements in corneal transplantation outcomes, telemedicine in Sjögren's syndrome, and image-guided orbital surgery. His professional roles include leadership in the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital governance, and national medical boards.
