About
Colum Walsh is a Full Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at Ulster University, holding the title Professor of Genetics. His research spans epigenetics, DNA methylation, and mental health, with cross-disciplinary applications in public health and biomedical sciences. He contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through work on epigenetics and nutrition.
His research interests focus on epigenetic mechanisms (DNA methylation, folic acid interactions) and their role in developmental disorders, cancer, and mental health conditions. Recent publications address:
- Immune response profiling in Omicron infections
- Mental health disparities in LGBTQA+ student populations
- Folic acid supplementation impacts on fetal epigenetics
- Proteomic biomarkers for severe COVID-19
He has supervised over a dozen research students and contributes to open-access datasets like CandiMeth for methylation analysis visualization.
