Colleen Ryan

Colleen Ryan serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Romance Studies within Tufts University's School of Arts and Sciences, while concurrently holding the administrative position of Vice Provost for Faculty in the Provost's Office since July 1, 2024.

Her research centers on the interdisciplinary exploration of Romance-speaking cultures, with emphasis on linguistic evolution, literary traditions, and sociocultural dynamics across Iberian, Gallo-Romance, and Italo-Romance contexts. This encompasses critical analysis of textual production, cultural identity formation, and language policy within historical frameworks.

As Vice Provost, she oversees faculty development initiatives while maintaining her scholarly focus on Romance language ecosystems. Her work bridges philological analysis with contemporary cultural theory to examine how linguistic practices shape regional identities.
