Colin Veach

Dr Colin Veach is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Hull, affiliated with the School of Humanities. He directs the Victoria County History project for Yorkshire's East Riding and holds an Honorary Research Associate position at Trinity College Dublin's Medieval History Research Centre. Previously, he taught at Trinity College Dublin (2005–2012) before joining Hull in 2012.

His research focuses on medieval power dynamics, transnational history, and the socio-political structures of medieval Britain and Ireland. Key themes include the interplay between aristocratic lordship and empire-building, particularly through the lens of the Lacy family and Angevin dynasty. Recent projects include a Leverhulme Trust-funded study on England’s early colonial efforts in Ireland (1199–1265).

Teaching includes undergraduate courses like 'History of Freedom' and 'The Vikings and their World,' alongside postgraduate modules such as 'Power, Authority, and Freedom in History.'
