Dr. Colin Ashe is an Assistant Professor in the Madia Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), part of the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He holds a BS in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), both in Materials Science and Engineering.
His research focuses on Chemical Education, with particular emphasis on conceptual learning, computer simulations for knowledge acquisition, and curriculum design. Key areas include optimizing student interactions with simulations, leveraging simulation-based games for informal learning, and strengthening interdisciplinary connections between chemistry and other sciences/engineering disciplines. He also investigates metacognitive strategies and motivational techniques to enhance student engagement.
Dr. Ashe’s publications emphasize innovative educational technologies such as ChemCollective resources, AI-guided collaborative learning environments, and web-based simulations for molecular science concepts.
