Colby Moorberg is an Associate Professor at Kansas State University in the Department of Agronomy. His career spans soil science, wetland research, and environmental education, with a focus on root ecology and hydropedology. He teaches introductory soil science courses, leads the K-State Hydropedology and Root Ecology Laboratory, and coaches the university's Soil Judging Team. Dr. Moorberg is also an advocate for open textbooks and active transportation, actively sharing his expertise through extension programs and public outreach.
His research explores the interactions between soil and roots in wetland, riparian, and agricultural ecosystems, building on prior work in phosphorus dynamics in restored wetlands and methane oxidation in boreal bogs.
