Clif Stratton is an Associate Professor of History at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He joined WSU in 2010 after earning his Ph.D. in History from Georgia State University. His research focuses on race, empire, capitalism, sport, education, and urban environments. He teaches courses on African American history, U.S. empire, and the history of social movements.
Education: PhD History (Georgia State University, 2010); MA History (Auburn University, 2005); BA History & Political Science (Presbyterian College, 2003).
Research Interests: Stratton examines how race and racism shape global systems, including education, environmental change, and popular culture. His recent work, Race and Recreation on Atlanta’s Baseball Diamonds, explores racial conflicts through Atlanta’s baseball infrastructure. He has published in Atlanta Studies and authored two books on energy history and education policy.
Teaching and Awards: He has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2019 Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award and 2020 Mid-Career Achievement Award. His courses emphasize equity, student engagement, and transformative learning experiences.
Labs/Teams: Actively involved in WSU’s History department initiatives and public history projects like the Hanford History Project and Past as Prologue program.
