Clemens Rohde is the Head of the Department of Energy Technology and Energy Systems at Fraunhofer ISI since 2024 and an honorary professor for systemic aspects of energy efficiency at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He leads research on energy efficiency instruments, financing mechanisms, and policy evaluation across household, commercial, and industrial sectors. His work integrates technical and economic perspectives to address climate protection challenges.
Education: Studied civil engineering at TU Darmstadt (graduated 2002), earned a doctorate in engineering (2007), and held roles as researcher and dean’s assistant before joining Fraunhofer ISI. Teaching responsibilities include energy efficiency modules, resource management, and waste treatment facility planning at TU Darmstadt since 2009.
Research focuses on energy efficiency policy design, circular economy legislation, and quantifying non-energy benefits of efficiency measures. Recent work explores financing frameworks for climate action and cross-sector heat utilization. Over 100 publications span energy systems modeling, policy analysis, and sustainability assessments.
Advising includes supervision of doctoral theses on energy demand modeling and circular economy policies. Active in collaborative projects like the German High-Tech Strategy and EU energy transition initiatives. Leads the Energy Efficiency Networks initiative, monitoring policy impacts and fostering international knowledge exchange.
