Clay West

Clay West serves as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Music at Sam Houston State University, joining the faculty in 2021 with a specialization in vocal instruction and choral direction.

His educational foundation includes:

• Bachelor of Arts in Music from Howard Payne University (honors graduate, Presser Scholar)
• Master of Arts in Theology from Andover Newton Theological School
• Advanced studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Sam Houston State University

Mr. West's expertise centers on choral conducting and music education, developed through eleven years of public school teaching where he directed award-winning choirs and prepared students for state-level competitions. His professional focus emphasizes vocal performance techniques, ensemble development, and music pedagogy for diverse educational settings.

As an active leader in music education, Mr. West serves as a UIL and festival adjudicator, clinician, and holds leadership positions including Region Vocal Chair for Region 9, Tenor Section Leader for TMEA All-State Mixed Choir, and TMEA Convention Coordinator. His professional affiliations encompass the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, and Texas Choral Directors Association.
