Claudio Gerbaldi

Claudio Gerbaldi is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) of the Polytechnic University of Turin and serves as Coordinator/Head of the Research Group for Applied Materials and Electrochemistry (GAME Lab). He is also a member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab.

Prof. Gerbaldi's GAME Lab specializes in developing innovative electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems, with expertise in environmentally friendly materials (nanostructured electrodes and polymer electrolytes), physicochemical characterization, and high-performance devices including lithium/sodium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur cells, and next-generation photovoltaic devices. His research aligns with SDG Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy and spans multiple ERC sectors including materials characterization, electrochemistry, and materials engineering.

His notable scientific awards include:

• Prix des Techniques Innovantes pour l'Environnement 2012 for innovative Li-ion battery production using cellulose fibers
• Best Poster Award from the International Symposium on Polymer Electrolytes - ISPE 13

Prof. Gerbaldi actively supervises PhD students working on energy storage technologies and leads numerous research projects including EU-funded initiatives like SOLVE, HIPERZAB, and EnabLi focused on solid-state battery development. He serves on the PhD Teaching College for Materials Science and Technology and teaches courses across multiple engineering programs at the university. His research facilities include specialized electrochemistry laboratories dedicated to testing and developing advanced battery technologies.
