Claudia Mitchell is a James McGill Professor in the Faculty of Education at McGill University, where she directs the McGill Institute for Human Development and Well-Being and founded the Participatory Cultures Lab. She also serves as an Honorary Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

Her research spans girlhood studies, gender-based violence, sexuality education, and participatory visual methodologies, with fieldwork across Canada, South Africa, Russia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Swaziland, The Gambia, Kenya, and Vietnam. She has authored or co-edited 25 books and co-founded the peer-reviewed journal Girlhood Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal.
