Claudia Fontas Rigau

Claudia Fontas Rigau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Girona (UdG). She leads the Environmental and Analytical Chemistry Research Group and has been actively involved in teaching and research since 2001.

Her research focuses on:

• Development of advanced separation techniques using polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) for environmental pollutant analysis.
• Application of ionic liquids and derivatives in membrane-based extraction systems.
• Design of speciation and availability monitoring devices for metals/oxyanions in ecosystems.
• Creation of sorbent materials for environmental sampling in remote areas.

She has participated in multiple competitive research projects, including four as Principal Investigator (2014–2022) and the current H2020-funded project "Efficient assessment of environmental pollution by advanced polymer inclusion membranes" (2023–2026). Her work targets contaminants like arsenic, mercury, cadmium, pesticides, and antibiotics.
