Claudia Elliott is a Senior Lecturer in International and Public Affairs and Associate Director of the International Relations (IR) Program at Brown University’s Watson Institute. She serves as an undergraduate concentration advisor for IR and teaches in the IR Honors Program. Her research focuses on comparative politics, transitions theory, Latin American politics, and electoral reform, with fieldwork in Spain, Cuba, Mexico, and Venezuela. She has extensive experience as an electoral observer in Mexico (1997, 2000, 2006) and has worked with institutions such as the Americas Society and El Colegio de México.
Education: B.A. and M.A. in Latin American Studies (University of Texas at Austin); Ph.D. in Political Science (Brown University). Awards include a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowship. She has translated scholarly works and fiction between Spanish and English.
Teaching emphasizes research design and academic writing, as seen in her INTL 1910-1920 Honors Thesis Seminar, which guides students in tackling global research problems. Professional affiliations include roles at the Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos (Caracas), CENDES (Venezuela), and the University of Texas Press.
