Claude Roux is a Distinguished Professor of Forensic Science and Director of the Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He holds academic affiliations with the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the Faculty of Science. After completing his education in Switzerland, he migrated to Australia in 1996 and became a pivotal figure in establishing forensic science programs in the country, including the first undergraduate and PhD programs in forensic science.
His research focuses on trace evidence, chemical criminalistics, fingerprints, forensic intelligence, and the role of forensic science in policing. He has published over 200 refereed papers, secured $5.5M in research grants, and received numerous awards including the 2004 AIPS Tall Poppy Award and the 2015 Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Medal. He leads international organizations like the International Association of Forensic Sciences and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Criminal Court.
Roux collaborates extensively with government agencies and academic partners globally. His recent work emphasizes forensic science's role in addressing modern challenges like drug trends, digital evidence, and crime scene management. He advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to enhance forensic science's reliability and relevance in the justice system.
