Clau Nader

Clau Nader is a Research Fellow and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the School of Arts and Creative Technologies, University of York, specializing in immersive audio-visual media design for film, television, and sonic art installations with applications in mental health. Their work bridges creative arts, technology, and healthcare with strong commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability.

Clau holds a BEng, MSc, and PhD (subject to corrections submission) in Theatre, Film, TV and Interactive Media. They serve on the School of Arts and Creative Technologies Ethics Committee and as an Advisory Group member for the Fair Funding for Mental Health project at the Centre for Health Economics Research.

Clau's research centers on social justice, mental health, and media studies, with particular emphasis on Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and co-production methods through creative digital media. Their 2024 doctoral research explored immersive multimodal ASMR-inducing media as potential psychosocial interventions for youth mental wellbeing. They investigate how different sound formats in ASMR media affect physiological and psychological responses, with applications for mental health support.

Clau is actively involved in the SCriPT project (Strengthening Crisis Team Provision for Young People via Technology enhanced Assessment and Training), funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and collaborates with York's Department of Education and Department of Health Sciences on mental health interventions.

As an educator, Clau delivers practical sessions for undergraduate modules including 'The Science of Sound and Cinematography', 'Introduction to Film and Television Production Methods', 'Advanced Audio', and 'Filmmaking', and teaches postgraduate modules like 'Digital Production and Postproduction Workflow' and 'Spatial Audio and Surround Sound' with strong psychoacoustics components.

Clau is a member of the ASMR Research Network, Audio Engineering Society, Soundgirls.org, and Yorkshire Sound Women's Network. They've presented at major venues including Cheltenham Science Festival, Universitat de Barcelona, Design Museum London, York Festival of Ideas, and multiple international symposiums on sensory research and audio engineering.
