About
Dr. Clare Strode serves as a Reader in Vector Biology at Liverpool John Moores University within the Department of Natural Sciences and Psychology, School of Biological and Environmental Sciences. With 28 research outputs spanning from 2005 to 2022, her work significantly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being through vector-borne disease research.
Dr. Strode earned her BSc in Zoology and Marine Biology and MSc in Animal Parasitology from Bangor University, followed by a PhD on antimicrobial effects of mosquito immune peptides from the University of Liverpool. She maintains an honorary academic position at Public Health England, demonstrating her commitment to translating research into public health practice.
Her research program focuses on critical challenges in vector biology, particularly insecticide resistance mechanisms in mosquito vectors and surveillance of invasive species. She investigates molecular resistance pathways in Aedes aegypti and Anopheles species responsible for transmitting malaria, dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Her work spans laboratory analysis of detoxification genes and resistance mutations to field surveillance of invasive mosquitoes in the UK and international settings including Colombia and French overseas territories.
Dr. Strode's recent publications reveal innovative approaches to vector control challenges, including developing rapid mass spectrometry tools for resistance detection and low-cost surveillance methods for invasive mosquito eggs. Her research demonstrates strong translational potential, with direct applications for public health agencies implementing vector control programs.
She has provided expert consultancy on the impact of pyrethroid resistance on malaria prevention strategies and continues to accept PhD students, indicating her active role in mentoring the next generation of vector biologists.
