Clare Fitzgerald is a Part-Time Instructor in the Department of Art and Music Histories at Syracuse University's College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Egyptian Art from Emory University and has held fellowships at major institutions including the American Research Center in Egypt and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her professional work focuses on the intersection of people and material culture, with expertise in Egyptian art, curatorial practices, and ancient Mediterranean collections.
As the Lisa and Bernard Selz Director of Exhibitions at NYU's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, she curated five international exhibitions on topics ranging from Babylon's Ishtar Gate to Pompeiian frescoes and the Ballets Russes' ancient inspirations. Her research explores elite identity in tomb paintings and the afterlives of Egyptian art in museums.
