Clara Filippi

Clara Filippi is a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Pacific Affairs, Australian National University, and a Nouméa-born PhD candidate at UCLouvain researching how New Caledonia transmits its violent historical period known as the "Events".

Her academic journey includes schooling in New Caledonia, a bachelor's degree from Montreal, and a master's degree from Belgium. Prior to doctoral studies, she worked in the New Caledonian government on customary affairs, gaining expertise in local customary law.

Her research focuses on political violence, reconciliation, and peace education in Pacific contexts, particularly through her "school of peace" initiative promoting non-violent communication and cultural discovery in classrooms across two New Caledonian provinces.

Clara actively engages in civil society initiatives, collaborating with provincial governments to implement peace education frameworks emphasizing empathetic listening and cross-cultural cooperation.
