Claire McCarthy is a Lecturer in the English Department at Salem State University. With over 25 years of experience as a writer and editor, she has worked at three publications and contributed to national outlets like The Boston Globe and New York Post. Her professional background includes roles at Boston TV stations, corporate communications training, and stand-up comedy performances focused on workplace humor.

• Education: M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University

Research and Teaching Interests center on the evolution of American journalism, digital information trends, social media's impact on media literacy, and the role of young people in sustaining democracy and free press. She integrates these themes into her Composition II courses.

Professional Activities include editing Northshore Magazine, producing films/videos, and advocating for life-long learning, creative writing, and social discourse. She recently revived her interest in watercolor painting.
