Claire McCann

Claire McCann is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the Ulster University Business School, affiliated with the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics. She has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since joining Ulster University in 2000, with a focus on financial mathematics, statistics, corporate finance, portfolio management, and education research.

• Education: BSc Hons Statistics, Mathematics & Operational Research (First) from Queen’s University Belfast, followed by an MSc Finance (Distinction) from the same institution.

Research Interests: Claire's work centers on financial mathematics, statistical modeling, and corporate finance, with a strong emphasis on pedagogical innovation. Her research explores interventions to enhance student employability, induction, and transition experiences in finance, economics, and accounting education. She integrates operational research methods with practical applications in portfolio selection.

Publications & Trends: Her 2011 publication examines the impact of work placements on academic performance, reflecting her dual expertise in financial education and student support mechanisms. The work aligns with her broader advocacy for experiential learning in finance curricula.
