About
Dr. Claire Conway is a Lecturer in Anatomy and Regenerative Medicine at RCSI and StAR Research Lecturer. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from NUI Galway and BEng in Mechanical Engineering (First Class Honors) from same institution. Completed postdoctoral training at MIT and Harvard-MIT Health Sciences program through FDA ORISE Fellowship.
Her research applies computational biomechanics to cardiovascular device performance. Current projects include SFI-funded DIgital models for Next generAtion MITral prosthEses (2021-2025) and Enterprise Ireland's BIOMECCA on ectopic calcification (2022-2023). Focus areas include stent fracture analysis, transcatheter valve mechanics, and device-tissue interactions. Collaborates with FDA on virtual medical device testing standards.
Conway developed finite element models simulating coronary stent implantation and fracture that informed FDA regulatory guidance. Her lab combines computational modeling with benchtop testing to evaluate cardiovascular devices under physiological conditions.
